Franco-British screenwriting workshop

The Ile-de-France Film Commission is a partner of the Franco-British Screenwriting Workshop (formerly known as Regards Croisés) which celebrated its 10th birthday in 2009 and whose aim is to create a bridge between first feature films and cinema professionals.

3 dates - 3 versions of a first feature film screenplay

  • Royaumont Abbey (January)

  • London: French Institute (May)

  • Dinard: British Film Festival (October)

Every year, the workshop brings together 8 screenwriters: 4 British and 4 French ones who graduated from the Fémis and the National Film and Television School 1 to 5 years before. They are selected for a first feature film project.

Over the course of three workshop sessions, they get the opportunity to work on their screenplay with leading British and French professionals: screenwriters, producers, directors, actors, etc. The confrontation of 2 very different approaches to screenwriting creates a strong rewriting dynamic.

The last workshop session ends with a public pitching of projects to a jury of French and British producers and gives these writers of a first feature film a chance to find a British or French producer, forge contacts, secure an agent, etc.

French projects may interest British producers and similarly, British projects may interest French producers. This workshop represents an excellent potential for future coproductions.
