CRC coproduction meetings

The CAPITAL REGIONS FOR CINEMA (CRC) network grew out of partnership agreements between the Ile-de-France Film Commission and its European counterparts:

The Madrid Film Commission is a private cultural foundation run by the audiovisual producers rights management body (EGEDA), the Spanish federation of associations of audiovisual producers (FAPAE), the Spain Film Commission, the Madrid Autonomous Community, and Madrid City Hall.

The Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg is the central institute of the Länder of Berlin and Brandenburg for the development and support of the media sector and the film infrastructure of the Region in terms of artistic, economic and technical resources.

The Roma Lazio Film Commission is the fruit of a convention between the region of Latium, the city of Rome and the provinces of Rome and Latium.

Coproduction meetings

Since 2005, the four members of the CRC network, the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the Madrid Film Commission, the Roma-Lazio Film Commission, and the Ile-de-France Film Commission have organized coproduction meetings in the major European festivals: the Berlinale, the Cannes Festival, the San Sebastian International Festival, and Rome Festival.

The four CRC partner regions also welcome their counterparts from international film commissions: New York Film in Berlin and Cannes 2008, with a delegation of New York producers; the Israel Film Fund with a delegation of Israeli producers in Berlin 2009; the Stockholm Film Commission and a delegation of Scandinavian producers in Cannes 2009; and the Buenos Aires Comisión de Filmaciones with a delegation of Argentine producers in Rome 2009.

These four coproduction meetings a year have enabled some 300 producers and distributors from the four capital regions, including 140 French companies, to present over 200 projects at different stages of development in search of European partners.

Several projects have been developed or coproduced after the CRC meetings, notably:

  • Il fiori di Kirkuk (Italy-France)
  • The Last Script-Remembering Luis Bunuel by Gaizka Urresti (Germany-Spain-France)
  • Fay Grim by Hal Hartley (USA-France-Germany)
  • Les Murs porteurs by Cyril Gelblat (France-Germany)
  • The alveolous of the earth by Yolanda Barrasa and Jose Luis Fernandez (France-Spain)
  • This life or the next one by Ilaria Borrelli and Guido Freddi (Italy-France)

Furthermore, the Ile-de-France Film Commission is developing partnerships with other European film commissions to encourage coproductions: thus, meetings between Ile-de-France and Catalan producers and distributors were held in June 2008 and December 2009, a joint initiative with Catalan Film and TV and the Catalonia Film Commission (Spain).
