Ile de France Film Commission

The Ile de France Film Commission and the Sacem’s Franco-American Cultural Fund joined forces to offer American screenwriters the chance to come and finalize a feature film project in one of the region’s prestigious monuments, Royaumont Abbey.

Every year since 2006, from October 1st to November 12th, a six-week residency is offered to four American screenwriters who are members of the Writers Guild of America to complete a feature film project. Six weeks to get the writing work going, to draw on the outside influences that the region can offer, to meet French professionals (technicians, writers, producers, etc.), and to discover rare, inspirational sites. Six weeks to enrich and crystallize a screenplay.

This residency is punctuated with weekly meetings on the possibilities of shooting American films in France. So, over dinners or lunches in Royaumont or Paris, the 4 American screenwriters meet French movie professionals (producers, distributors, technicians, actors, agents, technical service providers, etc.). Visits and location scouting in Ile de France are organized to nourish their creativity and refine their screenplay.

Autumn Stories offers these screenwriters a rare opportunity, but also creates a genuine and concrete Franco-American exchange by combining American projects and French resources (be they artistic, technical, financial or human).

The 4 screenwriters are selected by the WGA on the basis of a synopsis or treatment of a story mainly linked to Ile de France.

Moins d’un an après avoir participé à la quatrième édition de la résidence de scénaristes américains Autumn Stories, Jeremy Leven scénariste et réalisateur de N’oublie jamais et de Don Juan DeMarco, a tourné à Paris son deuxième long-métrage : Girl on a Bicycle. 

Girl on a bicycle a été sélectionné dans le cadre du programme Autumn Stories, créé en 2006 à l’initiative de la Commission du Film d’Île-de-France et du Fonds Culturel Franco-Américain : six semaines de résidence à l’Abbaye de Royaumont sont offertes à quatre scénaristes américains membres de la Writers Guild of America pour développer un  projet de long-métrage ayant pour décor la région francilienne. La Commission du Film d’Île-de-France et le Fonds Culturel Franco-Américain ont ainsi accompagné Jeremy Leven tout au long de l’écriture de son projet. Ponctuée de rencontres hebdomadaires avec les professionnels français du cinéma et de l’audiovisuel et de repérages de sites franciliens, la résidence a permis à Jeremy Leven d’achever son scénario et de préparer le tournage de Girl on a Bicycle.

Pour cette comédie romantique (l’histoire d’un homme dont la vie va être chamboulée par la rencontre à Paris d’une fille à bicyclette), Jeremy Leven s’est entouré d’un casting international avec en tête d’affiche Vincenzo Amato (Respiro d’Emanuele Crialese), Nora Tschirner, Paddy Considine (The Bourne Ultimatum de Paul Greengrass) et la française Louise Monot (OSS 117 : Rio ne répond plus de Michel Hazanavicius).

Le réalisateur a posé sa caméra à Paris dans le village de Charonne, la rue Saint-Blaise, sur le Pont Alexandre III et à la Mairie du XIe arrondissement ainsi qu’au dépôt de bus de l’OpenTour à Rosny-sous-Bois (Seine Saint-Denis). 

Girl on a Bicycle est produit par WIEDEMANN & BERG – Munich. La production exécutive en France est assurée par la société ELZEVIR FILMS. Le film bénéficie du crédit d'impôt international.
